Featured Excerpt: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening - Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

[N] Michelangelo's David (13th Feb 09 at 9:33pm UTC)
In the sixteenth century (1500s) Michelangelo created one of the world’s most renowned statues, David. It is considered a masterpiece and one of the greatest works done. Doing a quick search on Cuil (I use that search engine for research) it is noted that David is a strong symbol of the strength and the beauty of the young human body.

Presenting Michelangelo’s David:

In several sources I see the sculpted was either 1501 to 1504 or 1500 to 1504 and I even seen a 1501 to 1503 I am unsure of what the actual date is as the resources I found on Cuil seemed to very back and forth. I tried Google and had no such luck in the detailed information I was seeking. However, besides this, so the sculpture was sculpted within the years of 1500 and 1505, this time was the High Renaissance.

Honestly I had to lick up the exact time periods which rested at 1450 through 1527. The High Renaissance is most noted in art, as a great explosion of creative genius. According to WikiPedia (no source quoted) it was the largest and greatest explosion of creative genius ever to happen in history. In this period one other artist a majority of us would know would be Leonardo da Vinci.

Now, enough about the history of David, :]. Some quick facts now:

  • This is the biblical David (David v Goliath)
  • The statue is meant to show David after he made the choice to fight Goliath. Neither not exactly before nor after.
  • It is considered to be Michelangelo's masterpiece.
  • Athletic bit?

What are your thoughts on this piece of art? Your first thoughts on viewing the photograph (displayed above)? If you had the chance to see this statue in person would you take up the opportunity?

I would take the opportunity to see the actual sculpture with my own eyes if we can see it up-close. There are so many tiny facts mentioned, veins shown, and details that helps mark what the statue is and to make it realistic. I think this is something photographs alone cannot tell how majestic this statue actually is.
